Peas Is a pea a fruit or a vegetable? The pea is the seed of the pod, and sugar snap peas and a snow pea we eat the pod & seed. I don’t care they would have to be my most favourite green vegetable, fruit thing.
I can’t help but eat a few while preparing them. They are even better if someone else is cleaning them in the kitchen and you walk past and grab a handful. Shelling peas may be a fiddly job, but one that is well worth it, if that is what turns you off them my second choice would be sugar snap peas or snow peas, a little quicker to clean.
The thing I love about peas is that they lend themselves to any style of cooking, from a meat pie to a curry. In the restaurant we also use them to make a puree, which is very nice with fish. Just boil the peas for a few minutes. Strain the peas but keep ½ a cup of the water. Place the peas in a blender with a good spoon of butter, salt, pepper & the pea water. Try this one with your next home made pie.
