Beans

Green Beans 'Haricots Verts', (French Beans) Butter Beans 'Cherokee Wax, Purple Beans ' King Purple' Italian Flat Bean 'Polo'. There are so many varieties of fresh snap beans it gets a little confusing. You also have the climbers which grow up a wire or pole up to 2m  tall  or the dwarf which are a short plant that grows up to 60cm high.  The above list are a few that are available at the local farmers markets at the moment.

Beans are a great vegetable to grow at home, they don’t like too much water and you get a good size crop from each plant. They produce beans in 10 to 12 weeks.  They are also so versatile for eating, from picking straight of the vine and crunch away, a nice touch to a salad or serve them with the roast.

For  a quick salad blanched in boiling water for 1 minute then refreshed in ice water. Mixed with a little diced red onion, marinated feta, basil & a nice vinaigrette (equal red wine vinegar, walnut oil & extra virgin olive oil).

Or a nice touch with the roast is to wrap 8 in prosciutto and pop in the oven for a few minutes just before you serve the roast.
